World War 2 Inspiration

The main story of The Wonder City begins during World War 2 era New York City.  One of the fun parts of visually researching the story was how to insert the feeling of the wartime homefront into the background of a story that jumps around in history so often.  I decided to have some fun with the ubiquitous propaganda posters of the era.  I used two of my favorites as front and back interior covers in Book 2, replacing the female subjects of the posters with our own homefront female characters, Edwina and Velma.

The real Of Course I Can poster was released in 1944 as part of the US War Food Administration’s effort to boost spirits and encourage rationing. The artist is Dick Williams.

Do The Job He Left Behind was published by the US Government in 1943. The illustrator is R.G. Harris .
